20th Century Raw Silk on Silk Fully Embroidered Suzani, Tashkent
A fully hand embroidered silk Uzbek Suzani rug with symbols of ‘star sky’ or ‘moon sky’ and floral motives, snakes and stars in great condition sourced from Turkey. With a luminous purple and pink background fully covered with painstakingly detailed hand embroidery using black, yellow, orange and pink coloured motives and very small hand-stitched lucky beads, this is a magically joyful Suzani which would work well as a bed or sofa cover. It comes hand finished with a black back cover fabric and small hooks in a tasteful yellow fabric frame ready to be hung with hooks.
Traditionally from Central Asia, Suzanis were made by brides and their mothers as part of a dowry and presented to the groom on his wedding day. They represented the binding together of two families, and were adorned with symbols of luck, health, long life and fertility passed down from generation to generation.
