20th Century Raw Silk on Cotton Embroidered Suzani

Sourced from a great antique collection in Turkey, this is a very rare large rectangle Suzani in great condition with a vibrant orange silk cotton background, hand embroidered and stitched with black, blue and white medallion motives displaying flowers, nomadic patterns and symbols. Adorning a large festive table or as a big wall hanging, this Suzani would add great character to any room as a centre piece and lend itself to any occasion.

Traditionally from Central Asia, Suzanis were made by brides and their mothers as part of a dowry and presented to the groom on his wedding day. They represented the binding together of two families, and were adorned with symbols of luck, health, long life and fertility passed down from generation to generation.
